Mike Frick Memorial Baseball Scholarship Fund

Purpose: The purpose of the fund is to assist student-athletes, who want to continue playing baseball in college, in the pursuit of an education by awarding a scholarship to a deserving person or persons.

Background:  We created this fund in memory of our son and brother, Mike Frick, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 2003.  Mike played baseball locally at Buena High School in Ventura, graduating in 1998.  He attended Cal State Northridge on a baseball scholarship and played for the Matadors for three years. 

While attending college, he was selected to play for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League.  At Cal State Northridge, Mike set 4 team records, 2 of which he still holds.  He had records for most appearances in a career, most appearances in a season, most saves in a career and most saves in a season.  Mike was drafted in the eighth round of the Major League Amateur Player Draft in 2001 by the Oakland Athletics.  While a professional baseball player he played for the Vancouver Canadians, Modesto Athletics, Mesa Desert Dogs, Los Mochis Caneros, and the Midland Rockhounds, a double A franchise of the Oakland club.

He was selected to play in the single A All-Star game.  He was voted to the 30th Anniversary Team of the Modesto Athletics by the fans as the Closer.  Mike loved playing and teaching baseball.  Hopefully the recipients of this scholarship enjoy their college baseball playing careers, or even further. But the ultimate goal would be to take what they have learned in the classroom or on the field of play and apply it to improve society, to give back.
