I believe the Civic Alliance is important to the future of Ventura County because we are no longer a rural group of small communities but a regional entity that is growing and needing a long term plan for its economic stability, preservation of resources and diversiy of citizens...
I have been a member of the Alliance for 1_ year. The most important thing I have learned about Ventura County as a member of the Alliance is the need for continued collaboration among public officials, developers, business leaders and non-profit agencies...
Why should you join the Alliance as a steering committee or general member? To bring vision and expertise to the regional exchange concerning the future of the County and the betterment of its citizens.
Why does the Alliance make a difference in my life as a professional and my life as a resident of Ventura County? I am able to stay involved in public policy development, economic development and strategic planning as they relate to several fields of my professional career.
Books & Research Round Up:
Civic Alliance Members read lots of interesting reports & have access to information that can shape our opinions about the future of our region, the importance of sustainability and the work of civic leadership in a state that doesn’t seem to work very well. We have asked members of the Alliance to share some of the things they have read in the past year(s) that have intrigued, interested, provoked or engaged them, and what they remember most:
Research: AARP Research Foundation publications on the aging community, livable communities, consumer protection, economic development and health care. These topics follow my academic studies and professional career activities.
Sustainable Development:
New report: I find the internet has innumerable publications on community sustainability that are directly applicable to the VCCA and its activities.
Publications: Multiple.
Comment: . I have participated in numerous symposiums, forums and conferences addressing topics such as transportation, housing, education, health care, aging, technology, career development, infrastructure, political representation, and economic development.
