Social Justice Philanthropy/Creating Change Not Charity

The difference between “charity” and social justice grantmaking is that charity, although important, helps people but does not necessarily change the conditions in communities that cause the problems in the first place. Social change philanthropy empowers people to organize and create long-term changes for themselves and for society, thus “creating change not charity.”
The people who make a difference are not the ones with the credentials, but the ones with the concern.
