Leave Your Mark

Legacy – A way to leave a mark. For good. For Ever. Join Us.

"It is one of the few things that will outlast us, and make a difference long after I am gone."
– Mary Leavens Schwabauer VCCF Board Chair, board member, Chair of The Heritage Fund, long-standing community volunteer, and donor advisor: the Mary & Charles Schwabauer Fund at VCCF.

Start a Permanent Endowment
By establishing a permanent endowment fund, you provide the means for a nonprofit organization to receive operating support in perpetuity. VCCF manages permanent endowment funds with expertise, diligence and an excellent track record of performance – all done with the goal to preserve the purchasing power of your gifts after distributions, modest fees and inflation. Contributions from your fund will be recognized in perpetuity for the causes and organizations you believe in.

And with a donor-advised endowment fund, your children can participate in extending your family’s philanthropy into future generations, developing their skills as community leaders and stewards of your family’s values and concern for Ventura County.

Use or Start a Memorial Fund
A fund in honor of someone important to you – parents, grandparents, children, colleagues, a mentor or just a good friend – will carry your respect and regard into the future. Memorial funds can be created to provide scholarships, to make grants to local nonprofits, to sustain the work of particular organizations, or support the work of the Community Foundation – all in honor of that special person. And for those whose memorial gifts can make an impact today, VCCF’s Memorial Fund is a way to address community priorities today. Working with the VCCF staff, gifts can be made in memory of loved ones, or those dear to you, for a cause dear to them and to you. Visible recognition will happen with the gift and in our annual listings.

Open a Named Fund in VCCF’s Field-of-Interest Funds
A named fund (initiated through a contribution or pledge of at least $10,000 to a specific VCCF fund) lasts in perpetuity and helps support causes important to Ventura County’s populations and nonprofits. Current options include Destino: The Hispanic Legacy Fund, the Women’s Legacy Fund, the Heritage Fund, the Community Response Fund and VCCF’s own Cornerstone Funds. In honor of our 20th anniversary in 2007, VCCF is expanding named funds to include general scholarship funds (for students in arts, science and technology, the liberal arts, and graduate education). We are also expanding our undesignated grants funds – all which will provide donors with a chance to establish a named fund and participate with others in investing in our future.

Strengthen a Ventura County Nonprofit Endowment Fund
VCCF manages over $30 million of agency endowments and designated funds, distributing over $1.5 million in vital support for local nonprofits. By contributing to these funds, you will strengthen and extend the work of these organizations. VCCF provides donors with the confidence these funds will remain endowments long into the future, despite any changes in organizational leadership, staff and/or board turnover, or the future financial health of a nonprofit.

Establish a Charitable Gift Annuity By opening a Charitable Gift Annuity at VCCF, you provide not only guaranteed income to yourself and/or a family member, but also benefit a charity with a gift of the remainder interest at the time of your death. By combining your charitable gifts with the power of an annuity, your legacy can stabilize your income and provide for your favorite nonprofits well into the future.

Legacies Many of us have been strengthened by others who believed in us, and who helped us at critical times – navigating adolescence, going away to school, mentors in a new job, grandparents helping us juggle the generations, someone opening a door or speaking up at the right time – or sometimes just reaching out a helping hand in troubling times. The impact can last a lifetime and make all the difference – to a single person, or to a community.
