Elaine Miller Family Charitable Fund
Established by: Loren Miller
Established on: December 29, 2004
Purpose of the fund: The primary purpose of the Fund shall be for general charitable purposes.
Background: This fund was established by Loren Miller in memory of his wife, Elaine. The goal has been to establish a college scholarship program for students on Ventura High School’s Boys’ Water Polo teams. According to Loren, “For the last 51/2 years of Elaine’s life, our family’s lives were centered around two themes – fighting the ovarian cancer that finally claimed her life and supporting the sport of water polo that became so central to our boys’ lives. Our family was fortunate enough to become part of the VHS water polo program as it was undergoing a renaissance. The water polo community has provided great joy and support to us and this scholarship program is part of our effort to give back to that community.”
Loren chose to work with the Community Foundation because “it is strongly focused on local Ventura area needs, provides professional management and support and is very easy to work with. They are doing the good work that needs to be done. We are in this for the long haul and believe this endowment fund is a good way to honor Elaine.”
