Russell Fischer Fund for the Camarillo Library
Established by: Russell Fischer Estate
Established on: March 15, 2006
Purpose of the fund: The primary purpose of the fund is to support the Camarillo Library.
Background: Russell Fischer and his family moved to Ventura County in 1929. Mr. Fischer was a citrus farmer; his family developed the Hilltop Ranch in the Santa Rosa Valley in the 1930’s, where he lived until the 1980’s. Mr. Fischer spent his retirement years living in Camarillo. According to his lawyer, as quoted in the Ventura County Star, Mr. Fischer “was an avid reader, which inspired his bequest to the Camarillo Library, a place he visited almost daily.” Through his bequest, he became the single largest benefactor to the Ventura County Community Foundation, with a gift of $11 million benefitting five non-profits in the County.
