Purpose of the fund: The primary purpose of the fund is to support the American Red Cross for use in Ventura County, preferably in Camarillo.
Background: Russell Fischer and his family moved to Ventura County in 1929. Mr. Fischer was a citrus farmer; his family developed the Hilltop Ranch in the Santa Rosa Valley in the 1930’s, where he lived until the 1980’s. Mr. Fischer spent his retirement years living in Camarillo. Through his bequest, he became the single largest benefactor to the Ventura County Community Foundation, with a gift of $11 million benefitting 5 non-profits in the County.
