Flight 261 Memorial Endowment Fund

Purpose of the fund: The primary purpose of this Fund shall be to: provide resources to build the monument to memorialize Alaska Airlines Flight 261 and to provide an endowment fund to provide resources to maintain, repair, remove and/or relocate the monument.
Background: Alaska Airlines Flight 261 tragically crashed into the Pacific Ocean at 4:22 p.m. on January 31, 2000, killing all 89 passengers and crew members on board. The crash occurred just over 2.5 miles north of Anacapa Island. With the approval of the victims’ families, a memorial sundial was built in Port Hueneme. The sun dial is designed to cast a shadow over the memorial plaque at 4:22 P.M. each January 31.
