Cal Poly-SLO Agri-Business Department Fund
Established by: Ralph D. Mahan
Established on: April 20, 2001
Purpose of the fund: The primary purpose of the Fund shall be to provide support of Cal Poly-SLO Agri-Business Department and provide a scholarship for a Ventura County youth to attend the Agri-Business Department of Cal Poly-SLO.
Background: Mr. Ralph Mahan is not only a native of Ventura County, but is also a founding board member of the Ventura County Community Foundation. Mr. Mahan belongs to one of the founding families of Moorpark.
Mr. Mahan’s community involvement is evidenced by his decades of service to Ventura County. He has served on the boards of various organizations. Giving back to the community appears to be tradition in the Mahan family, as Mahan’s great-great-grandfather, John Mahan, established the Pleasant Valley School District in 1868.
Mr. Mahan has continued the tradition of giving by establishing four funds at the Ventura County Community Foundation. This fund was created as a perpetual reminder of the leadership of Edgar J. Hyer, Agri-Business Chairman at Cal Poly-SLO.
